Steve Allen était un artiste musical, animateur de télévision et comédien américain. Né le 26 décembre 1921 à New York, il est décédé le 30 octobre 2000 à Los Angeles. Allen a commencé sa carrière d'animateur de radio aux États-Unis, mais c'est à la télévision qu'il a connu la gloire. Il est surtout connu pour avoir été le premier hôte de "The Tonight Show", un programme de fin de soirée sur NBC, à partir de 1954. Ses skecths sérieux, ses interviews approfondies avec des célébrités et ses sketches comiques ont fait de lui une figure populaire de la télévision américaine. En tant que musicien, Allen était un pianiste doué. Il a écrit plus de 14 000 chansons, dont beaucoup ont été enregistrées par des artistes populaires. Il a également écrit plusieurs livres sur la comédie, la télévision et la musique. Malgré son succès, Steve Allen a également été controversé. Certaines de ses déclarations et de ses actions ont été critiquées comme étant racistes et sexistes. Cependant, il a laissé derrière lui un héritage considérable dans l'industrie du divertissement américain.
