Biografia di Ben Alonzi Ben Alonzi è un artista musicale americano nato il 16 marzo 1975 a New York, New York, Stati Uniti. Cresciuto nel Queens, ha studiato musica alla Fiorello H. LaGuardia School of Music and Art and Performing Arts. Successivamente ha proseguito gli studi in composizione e arrangiamento con il trombettista e compositore Ralph Alessi alla New York University e in composizione elettroacustica con il compositore Mario Davidovsky alla Columbia University. Alonzi ha poi conseguito il dottorato in composizione musicale presso l'University of California, Los Angeles nel 2006. Ha iniziato la sua carriera come trombettista nel brass band newyorkese Lucky Chops, prima di unirsi al gruppo rock The Dazzling Killmen nel 1995, dove suonava la tromba, la chitarra e il pianoforte. Nel 1996 ha fatto parte del gruppo di jazz sperimentale Naked City, e nel 2001 ha fondato il trio di jazz sperimentale Mephista con la pianista Sylvie Courvoisier e la percussionista Ikue Mori. Il trio ha pubblicato tre album insieme, tra cui il primo, "Entomology", nominato per il premio come album di jazz dell'anno dal magazine Down Beat nel 2004. Oltre alle collaborazioni in gruppo, Alonzi ha lavorato come arrangiatore e compositore per diversi artisti, tra cui Dave Douglas, Matthew Shipp, David S. Ware, George Lewis e Jenny Scheinman. Ha inoltre composto musica per film e documentari come "I Am Not Your Negro" di Raoul Peck, "The Black Power Mixtape 1967-1975" di Göran Hugo Olsson e "The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution" di Stanley Nelson. Attualmente, Ben Alonzi risiede a Brooklyn, New York, con sua moglie, la violinista e compositrice Jenny Scheinman, e i loro due figli.
