Ella Fitzgerald è stata una cantante di jazz americana, considerata una delle più grandi voci del jazz della storia. Ha iniziato la sua carriera al Savoy Ballroom a Harlem nel 1934 ed ha inciso per la prima volta con il grande ensemble di Chick Webb nel 1935. Fitzgerald ha firmato con Decca Records nel 1936 ed ha inciso diversi album, tra cui "A-Tisket, A-Tasket" e "The Cole Porter Songbook". Si è esibita in tournée con la band di Benny Goodman nel 1938 ed ha pubblicato il suo primo album solista, "Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Cole Porter Songbook", nel 1956. Fitzgerald è stata nominata "La Prima Donna del Jazz" dalla rivista DownBeat nel 1960. Ha inciso diversi album con l'etichetta Verve Records, tra cui "Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Duke Ellington Songbook" e "Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Harold Arlen Songbook". Fitzgerald è stata nominata Commendatore della Legion d'Onore in Francia nel 1973 ed è deceduta il 15 giugno 1996 a Beverly Hills, in California.
