The Avengers are an American rock band originating from San Francisco, California. The group was formed in 1977 by Penelope Houston, Greg Ingraham, and Jimmy Wilsey. At the start of their career, they were associated with the San Francisco punk rock scene. The band's self-titled first album, The Avengers, was released in 1977, followed by We Are the One in 1978 and Avengers in 1983. After disbanding in 1984, the group reunited in 2006. The Avengers played a major role in the development of the San Francisco punk rock scene, their music being described as a mix of punk rock, power pop, and new wave.
