System of a Down, originally named System of a Down, is an American rock band from Los Angeles, California. The band was formed in 1994 by guitarists Daron Malakian and Serj Tankian, as well as bassist Shavo Odadjian.
Their self-titled debut album, released in 1998, was an immediate success and since then, the band has sold over 40 million albums worldwide. The band's songs often tackle political themes such as war, religion, corruption, and hate.
System of a Down is often compared to bands like Rage Against the Machine and Metallica due to their heavy metal sound and their socially-conscious lyrics. The band has won numerous awards, including two Grammy Awards, and is considered one of the best rock bands of all time.
