BIOGRAPHY

Paula Abdul is an American singer, dancer, actress, producer, director, choreographer, and businesswoman, born on June 19, 1962, in San Fernando, California. She began her career in the 1980s as a choreographer for films such as Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home and Coming to America. She gained fame in the 1990s with her debut album, Forever Your Girl, certified diamond by the RIAA, which produced six number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100, including "Straight Up", "Forever Your Girl", "Cold Hearted", and "Opposites Attract". Abdul went on to have a successful career with albums such as Spellbound, Head over Heels, and My Love Is for Real, and also had a film and television career, appearing in movies such as The Running Man, Action Jackson, and Executive Decision. In 2002, Abdul was named Dancer of the Year by the American Choreography Awards. She was then named Choreographer of the Year in 2006 by the Dance Critics Association. Abdul also had a successful television career, appearing as a judge and coach on several reality shows, including American Idol, The X Factor, and So You Think You Can Dance. In 2008, she was named Producer of the Year by the Producers Guild of America. Abdul was also honored by the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2002 and by the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2007.
