BIOGRAPHY
Sokolovsky was born in the city of Rostov-on-Don, Russia. He began playing the piano at the age of five, with his mother as his first piano teacher. At the age of seven, he joined the Central Music School in Moscow. It was there that he studied with Lev Naumov and Alexander Goldenweiser. In 1964, he graduated from the Moscow Conservatory with a specialization in piano performance.
Sokolovsky has been a soloist with the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Philadelphia Orchestra. He has also performed as a soloist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the San Francisco Symphony.
Sokolovsky has won numerous competitions, including the Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition, the Rachmaninov International Piano Competition, and the Rubinstein International Piano Competition. He has been awarded the Order of Friendship, the Order of Honor, and the Order of Merit for the Fatherland.
