BIOGRAPHY
John Wright (born June 6, 1953) is a British musician, composer, and producer of electronic music. Wright began his musical career playing guitar in London jazz clubs in the 1970s. He later studied electroacoustic composition at the University of York, where he was influenced by concrete and minimalist music. After graduating, he worked as a freelance musician and composer, collaborating on numerous musical projects and writing articles on electronic music for specialized magazines.
In 1985, Wright established his own electronic label, John Wright Music, which released several of his solo albums, as well as electronic music albums by composers such as Peter Frohmader, Dave Bristow, and Ian Boddy. In 1992, he set up the classical music label 21st Century Music, which published contemporary music albums by composers such as John Cage, Karlheinz Stockhausen, and György Ligeti.
As a producer and sound engineer, Wright has worked on numerous albums, including those of Brian Eno, David Bowie, Robert Fripp, Harold Budd, Daniel Lanois, and Peter Gabriel.
Wright currently resides in London with his wife, musician and composer Debbie Wright.
