BIOGRAPHY
Gheorghe Zamfir (born April 6, 1941) is a renowned Romanian musician, considered one of the best pan flute players in the world. He has popularized this instrument among millions of fans worldwide.
Zamfir was born in a small Romanian town called Gheorghe Șincai. He began learning the pan flute at the age of five and studied at the Bucarest School of Music. In 1960, he joined the Bucharest City Orchestra, with which he played for many years. In 1966, he was invited to perform with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, marking the beginning of his international reputation.
Zamfir has recorded over 200 albums and has sold over 50 million copies worldwide. Among his most famous songs are "The Lonely Shepherd" and "Concerto for a Voice". He has also appeared in several films such as "The Godfather, Part II" and "Kill Bill: Volume 1".
In 2001, Zamfir was named Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French government. In 2006, French President Jacques Chirac named him Commander of the National Order of Merit and in 2009, President Nicolas Sarkozy named him Commander of the Order of Liberation.
