BIOGRAPHY
François-Xavier Roth, born in Paris, is a French conductor and musician.
He has been the musical director of the Gewandhausorchester of Leipzig since 2015 and musical director of the Lyon Chamber Orchestra since 2011.
François-Xavier Roth studied violin, conducting, and composition in Paris, Cologne, and Salzburg. After serving as assistant to Claudio Abbado at the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, he was appointed assistant conductor of the Gürzenich Orchestra in Cologne in 2001. In 2003, he became principal conductor of the Court-circuit ensemble, a position he held until 2009.
In 2006, he founded the ensemble Les Siècles with which he has recorded several albums, including a contemporary music album that was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2009.
In 2011, François-Xavier Roth was appointed musical director of the Lyon Chamber Orchestra. In 2015, he was appointed musical director of the Gewandhausorchester of Leipzig, succeeding Riccardo Chailly.
In 2017, François-Xavier Roth was promoted to Officer of the National Order of the Legion of Honor.
