Divine

BIOGRAPHY

Divine, birth name Harris Glenn Milstead, is an American artist born on October 19, 1945 in Baltimore and died on March 7, 1988 in Los Angeles. Mainly known for his work as an actor and singer, Divine became an icon of the underground culture of the 1970s and 1980s. Frequently collaborating with director John Waters, he gained fame for his provocative roles in films like "Pink Flamingos" and "Hairspray". In addition to his film career, Divine also had a successful career in music, performing in the disco genre and creating several hits in dance clubs, notably with songs like "You Think You're a Man" and "I'm So Beautiful". His imposing presence and flamboyant style have made him a prominent figure in the LGBT rights movement, although he often described himself more simply as an actor rather than an activist.
