The band was formed in 1988 by Tim Barry, Joe Banks, and Erik Larson, all hailing from the outskirts of Richmond. Their first EP, All Ages Show, was released in 1990. In 1991, they released their first album, Satiate, on the local label Plan 9 Records. They then signed with the label Fat Wreck Chords and released the album Avail in 1995.
