BIOGRAPHY
Alexander Van Gray is an American musical artist born on July 8, 1954, in San Francisco, California. He began his musical career playing piano in jazz clubs in San Francisco during the 1970s. In 1977, he joined the progressive rock band Journey as keyboardist and lead vocalist. He played with the group for four years, leaving in 1981 to pursue a solo career.
Alexander Van Gray has released seven solo albums throughout his career. His self-titled debut album (1982) was a commercial success, reaching fourth place on the Billboard 200. His second album, "The Time Has Come" (1984), was also successful, reaching eleventh place on the Billboard 200. His subsequent albums had less commercial success but were critically acclaimed. In 2002, he released an album of covers, "Alexander Van Gray Sings the Songs of Journey".
Beyond his musical career, Alexander Van Gray has also worked as a producer and director. He has produced several progressive rock albums, some of which have been nominated for Grammy Awards. In 2006, he directed his first feature film, "The Time Has Come: The Journey of Neil Schon".
