Omi, whose real name is Omar Samuel Pasley, born on July 13, 1986, is a Jamaican singer, songwriter, and record producer. He is best known for his 2014 hit "Cheerleader," which became a global success.
Early Life
Pasley was born in the parish of Clarendon, Jamaica, and grew up in the village of May Pen. His mother was a teacher and his father a deacon. Pasley was a talented young soccer player and played for the Clarendon College team that won the Manning Cup in 2003. He left soccer after a serious injury and turned to music.
Career
Pasley's musical career really took off when he met record producer Clifton Dillon, who helped him record his first song, "Miss My Baby". The song was a hit in Jamaica, leading Pasley to sign a recording contract with Dillon's label, Oufah Music.
Pasley's success came in 2014 with the release of his single "Cheerleader". The song was a global hit, reaching number one in several countries, including the United States, where it sold over two million copies.
Pasley has since released several other successful singles, including "Hula Hoop" and "Colors". He has also collaborated with several other artists, including Justin Bieber, Major Lazer, and Usher.
In 2016, Pasley won a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album for his album Me 4 U.
In 2018, Pasley was featured on the single "No Lie" by Sean Paul. The song reached number two on the UK Singles Chart.
In 2020, Pasley was featured on the single "I Wanna Know" by NOTD and Felix Jaehn.
