Stromae is a Belgian author-composer-singer and music producer. Born on March 12, 1985 in Brussels as Paul Van Haver, he is better known by his stage name, Stromae, which is an anagram of the word "maestro". Of Rwandan descent on his father's side and Belgian on his mother's side, Stromae grew up in Belgium where he developed an interest in music at a young age. He started rapping at the age of 11 and released his first EP in 2007 under the pseudonym "Opsmaestro". He changed his name to Stromae in 2008.
