Katy Perry is an American singer, songwriter, and actress born on October 25, 1984 in Santa Barbara, California. She began her career in 2001 by signing a contract with Red Hill Records, and released her first studio album, Katy Hudson, in March 2001. The album was not successful, and Perry left the label a few months later. In 2004, she signed a contract with Capitol Records and started working on her second studio album. Her album One of the Boys was released in 2008 and was a commercial success, reaching number three on the Billboard 200 and selling over two million copies in the United States.
