Beyond is a Hong Kong rock group formed in 1983, originally consisting of Wong Ka Kui, Wong Ka Keung, Yip Sai Wing, and Paul Wong. Beyond is known for their socially and politically engaged songs, particularly on themes of social justice and freedom. The group gained great popularity in Hong Kong and East Asia in the 1980s and 1990s. Their most famous song, "Glorious Days" (光輝歲月), is a tribute to Nelson Mandela and his fight against apartheid in South Africa. The tragic death of leader and singer Wong Ka Kui in 1993 due to a fall during a television show in Japan marked a turning point for the group. After Wong Ka Kui's death, Beyond continued to produce music and perform, although their popularity and influence decreased. The group eventually decided to disband in 2005. Despite this, their music remains influential and continues to be listened to and respected, not only in Hong Kong but also among Chinese communities worldwide.
