Julie McKnight is an American artist born on February 3, 1966 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Coming from a family of musicians, she began her career singing in jazz clubs in Pittsburgh. In 1986, she moved to New York to pursue her musical career. In 1991, she signed with EastWest Records and released her first self-titled album, Julie McKnight. The album was well received by critics and reached number one on the R&B charts. McKnight continued to release albums and singles throughout the 1990s and 2000s. In 2006, she joined Def Jam Recordings and released her comeback album, Life on the Line, which was a commercial success and reached number two on the R&B charts. Julie McKnight has explored various musical genres throughout her career. She has sold over five million albums and singles worldwide and is considered one of the best R&B singers of her generation. In 2014, she released her latest album, Better Than I've Ever Been, which was well received by critics.
