BIOGRAPHY
Scatman John, born John Paul Larkin, was an American musical artist who had an international career in the 1990s. He was born on March 13, 1942 in El Monte, California, and passed away on December 3, 1999 in Los Angeles. Scatman John is known for his unique style that combines classic jazz with contemporary dance. He was known for practicing scat, a vocal jazz technique that involves vocalizing nonsense syllables, which earned him the nickname "Scatman".
Despite struggling with a severe stutter, Scatman John managed to turn this characteristic into a musical advantage, especially in his hit song "Scatman (Ski-Ba-Bop-Ba-Dop-Bop)". He released five studio albums during his career with several songs reaching international chart success.
Despite his musical success, Scatman John dedicated much of his life to fighting against the stigma associated with stuttering and encouraging people not to be defined by their personal challenges. He passed away at the age of 57 due to lung cancer.
