BIOGRAPHY
Bomfunk MC's is a Finnish electronic music group, active mainly between 1998 and 2005. The group is best known for their track "Freestyler", which became a global success in 1999. Their music is a blend of hip-hop, breakbeat, and electro.
The group was formed in 1998 by Finnish DJ and producer Jaakko "JS16" Salovaara. He teamed up with rapper B.O. Dubb (Raymond Ebanks) and drummer Ari Toikka to create the group. The name Bomfunk MC's comes from their desire to mix the genres of "bom" (a Finnish expression for "awesome", "cool") and "funk", with the idea of being the masters of ceremonies ("MC's") of this new style.
In addition to their hit "Freestyler", Bomfunk MC's released several other successful singles and albums in Europe and the Nordic countries, including "Uprocking Beats" and "B-Boys & Flygirls".
Bomfunk MC's has won several music awards in Finland, and their album "In Stereo" has been certified platinum in several countries. The group took a break in 2005, before returning with a new single in 2018.
