Freeez was a British R&B, soul, and dance music group that was active in the early 1980s. The group is best known for their 1983 hit single "I.O.U.", which reached number 5 on the UK Singles Chart. The group was formed in 1981 by John Rocca (vocals, keyboards), Andy Staveley (drums) and Paul Morley (bass). They were later joined by David Grant (vocals) and Steve Jones (guitar). The group's name was inspired by the word "freeze", which was a popular dance at the time. The group's first single, "Southern Freeez", was released in 1982 and reached the Top 40 in the UK. Their second single, "I.O.U.", was released in early 1983 and became a massive hit, reaching number 5 in the UK. The song was also successful in several other countries, including the United States, where it reached number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100. The group's third single, "Baby I'm Yours", was released late 1983 and reached the Top 20 in the UK. The group's fourth and final single, "Love I Lost", was released in early 1984 and reached the Top 30 in the UK. The group's first album, Freeez, was released in 1983 and reached the Top 10 in the UK. The album was also certified gold in the UK. The group disbanded in 1985. Rocca went on to have a solo career, releasing the album One Way Ticket to the Sky in 1986. Grant also had a successful solo career, releasing the album David Grant & Jaki Graham in 1986.
